Prof Erika de Wet

 

Prof De Wet is an Extraordinary Professor in the Department of Public Law of the Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria. She is also Professor in International Constitutional Law at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

Prof De Wet’s qualifications include an LLM from Harvard University, an LLD in Comparative Constitutional Law from the University of the Free State, as well as a Habilitationsschrift (second doctorate peculiar to the Germanic countries) in International Law from the University of Zurich.

In 2007, she received a five-year excellence grant of 1.2 million euro from The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) for a research project on hierarchy in international law. Her best-known publication is The Chapter VII powers of the United Nations Security Council (Hart Publishing, Oxford 2004). It has, among others, been cited by the International Court of Justice (2004), the European Court of Human Rights (2007), and the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom (2007).

Prof De Wet is also one of the editors-in-chief of the Oxford Reports on International Law in Domestic Courts and a member of the Advisory Committee on Issues of Public International Law of The Netherlands.
