The School of Health Systems and Public Health (SHSPH) is student-centred school with educational research used to inform Teaching and Learning and, remains committed to inspiring public health excellence globally through its research activities, while enriching the lives of South Africans and Africans in general.

The SHSPH is committed to graduating a new generation of public health professionals by providing context driven education and training, guided by societal needs as informed by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and aided with new technologies brought about by The Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The School of Health Systems and Public Health has a high quality of teaching and learning in the classroom, online, and in communities. We have support in place for our students to graduate on time as well-rounded, responsible citizens fully prepared for the world beyond university.

Applications for all study plans except MSc Environmental Health, for the 2023 academic year are closed now.

Please take note that a Diploma in Public Health or an equivalent is a requirement for the MPH - Master of Public Health. No MPH application will be considered without submission of an academic record and degree certificate.

Expression of Interest: Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellow:

Prospective PhD students at the SHSPH

Thank you for your interest to pursuing PhD studies at the School of Health Systems and Public Health (SHSPH).

The School accepts PhD applications based on the availability of a supervisor for the applicant's project. Academic staff in the school can only supervise projects within their own research focus area, they can't randomly supervise any topic.

Prospective students are advised to go through the list of academic staff in the school and check their research focus area. You can contact the staff member directly to find out if he or she is available to supervise your project, so that when you write your concept note, you have agreed with a potential supervisor.

Then submit your concept note and CV to the Academic Advisory Committee of the school. The committee will review the concept, and if approved you can be admitted and then register and work on a full protocol.
