Oleg Reva graduated from the T.G. Shevchenko Kiev State University of Ukraine in 1990. He started his research career in the Institute of Microbiology and Virology (Kiev, Ukraine) working on taxonomy, genetics and biotechnology of plant growth promoting Bacillus. From 2002 to 2004 Oleg was a post-doctoral researcher on bioinformatics in the High Medical School of Hanover (Germany). In 2006, he joined the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Unit of the University of Pretoria as National Bioinformatics Network Node Manager, was appointed as a permanent full-time Senior Lecturer in 2008 and Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry in 2010.

Professor Reva has a C2 NRF rating. He has published 50 scientific papers and has an h-index of 12.

IRT-related research projects

Oleg Reva leads a research project on complete genome sequencing of a prospective candidate strain of Bacillus subtilis for a post-harvest disease control biopesticide. This is an international research project involving Ukrainian and German research teams. He is also leading research on the development of innovative algorithms and computational tools based on genome linguistic approaches for comparative and evolutionary genomics.
