Prof N. Themba Mosia was appointed as Vice-Principal: Student Affairs and Residences at the University of Pretoria in July 2013. His portfolio entails all extracurricular student development services, health and wellness support, including student life and housing.

After completing a Bachelor of Arts at the University of the North, a University Education Diploma and Honours degree, he earned a Masters degree in Management and Policy Studies from Portland State University, Oregon, USA. He completed his doctoral studies in Management at the University of Pretoria. The thrust of his scholarly work is on medical education, quality assurance, governance and leadership.

His career of over three decades entails teaching at school, College and University levels. He served as Assistant Registrar at the University of the North and later became Registrar at the Medical University of Southern Africa, a Dean at EDUCOR and General Manager at the HPCSA. Prior to his appointment as Vice-Principal, he was the Institutional Registrar at NorthWest University (NWU).

Prof Mosia was appointed by the Minister of Higher Education and Training as the Administrator/Vice-Chancellor of Tshwane University of Technology in 2011-12. He was a member of the Independent Assessor team for the University of Zululand. He sat on a number of audits and also chaired the Institutional Audit of Walter Sisulu University in 2011. He has served as the Chairperson of the Board of the CHE since 2013. His current term as Chairperson ends in July 2022.

Prof Mosia served as Director on the Foundation of Tertiary Education Institutions in the Northern Metropolis (FOTIM) and on the International Education Association of South Africa. He served in numerous capacities for student financial aid and international collaboration projects. He served on the Board of National Student Financial Aid Scheme from July 2011 until 9 August 2018.

From April 2016 to August 2017 Prof Mosia served as an expert advisor on the Commission of Inquiry established by the President of the Republic of South Africa to investigate the feasibility of fee-free higher education in South Africa. He returned full-time to the role of Vice-Principal: Student Affairs and Residences in September 2017.
