L’Oréal Brandstorm Challenge 2017

On 15 February 2017, Ms Virginie Dias-Tagnon (Talent Director – Africa) and Ms Funeka Sogoni (Recruitment Manager) from the cosmetics company L’Oréal visited the third-year Marketing Research students to brief them about the annual L’Oréal Brandstorm Challenge.
 
Launched in 1992, L'Oréal annually hosts the Brandstorm Challenge, which requires students to develop innovative marketing communication strategies to market a particular L'Oréal brand, allowing students to apply what they have learnt in class to a real-life practical scenario. The 2017 Brandstorm Challenge has introduced a second category – the Tech Challenge – which encourages teams to develop innovation using new technologies.
 
The L’Oréal Paris Men Expert brand has been chosen as the partner brand for 2017, with the challenge theme ‘disrupt men’s grooming with life-changing innovation’.
 
Approximately 15 000 students from 58 countries compete annually in teams of three for the coveted first prize of €10 000 and being hosted in Paris, France, for the finals. The University of Pretoria has done well in the past, with a team of three third-year students from the Department of Marketing Management selected as national finalists in 2016, and one team placed third nationally in 2014.
