Prof Berendien Lubbe, Head of the
Tourism Management Division, participated in the annual INVESTOUR Workshop in Las Palmas, Spain, from 16 to 17 October 2017. The Tourism Investment and Business Forum for Africa Workshop is jointly organised by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the International Tourism Trade Fair of Madrid (IFEMA/FITUR) and Casa Africa (organisation representing the government of Spain) and is aimed at supporting government agencies, entrepreneurs and investors in tourism projects to tap into the African tourism market.
The workshop focussed on Africa as the fastest growing continent for international arrivals, with South Africa being in the top spot, together with Morocco. The workshop’s programme included presentations, interactive discussion sessions, as well as technical visits organised by Casa Africa as the host of the event. Attendance of this workshop formed part of the research conducted by the Tourism Management Division on behalf of the National Department of Tourism.
The workshop was attended by high-level participants from various African countries, amongst them ministers of tourism, directors and senior stakeholders in the tourism industries of various African countries, such as Cote d'Ivoire, Kenya, Angola, Cameroon, the Gambia, Seychelles and the DRC.
