The 2018 Southern African Institute for Management Scientists (SAIMS) conference was held at the Stellenbosch University during September, with the theme ‘Celebrating 30 years of research-inspired management advancement’.
The SAIMS conferences are held each year to create opportunities for management scientists to discuss matters of management education and research. This year’s conference drew participants and scholars from across South Africa and a guest speaker from as far afield as Poland. The keynote speaker, Prof Rafal Ohme, shared cutting-edge neuroscience research and its application in market research with the delegates.

A total of 100 competitive papers from all universities across South Africa were considered for the conference, of which 63 were accepted to be presented as full competitive conference papers. Of the 63 competitive papers that were presented, only five papers were nominated for the SAIMS 2018 Overall Best Paper Award. Amongst the top five papers considered for the award, Dr Humbani and Prof Wiese’s paper was nominated for the SAIMS 2018 Best Paper Award.
The Department of Marketing Management congratulates its scholars for their achievements. Given the conducive environment in the Department, it is highly anticipated that these awards will serve as an impetus for many more research outputs in the future.
