Research Indaba held at the Faculty of Education

The Faculty of Education has its annual Research Indaba on 3 October 2018. Many postgraduate students participated in the event and presented their research work. Awards were made to the best research in several categories.

The award nominations for 2018 were particularly challenging this year as there were exceptional abstract entries. Congratulations to all the postgrad students and their dedicated supervisors for outstanding work.  After rigorous and multiple assessments by a multitude of reviewers in different departments of the Faculty of Education the following award winners were nominated:

The Research Indaba of 2018 award winners are:

MEd (Novice research) R1000 prize money was awarded to Tembelihle Mtsali (Grade 9 learners’ opportunity to learn Patterns, Functions and Algebra).        

MEd (Completed research) R1000 and a R500 Bookmark voucher was awarded to Heather Erasmus (Pre-service teachers’ perceptions and strategic use of teacher talk in multilingual classrooms)

MEd (Completed research) R1000 and a R500 Bookmark voucher awarded to Che Jude (The effect of life design counselling on the self- efficacy of a learner from an environment challenged by disadvantage)

PhD (Novice research) R2000 was awarded to Nastassja Maree (The influence of life design-related counselling on Grade 7 learners’ academic self-construction)

PhD (Research in progress) R2000 was awarded to Mandla Masango   (Electronic textbooks in Gauteng public schools: pros and cons)          

PhD (Completed research) R2000 and a R1000 Bookmark voucher were awarded to Dr. Guillaume Kruger (Retrospective experiences of a rural school partnership: informing global citizenship as a higher education agenda)                                                                                                  

Best Presentation R1000 was awarded to Tanita Reddy (Beginner teachers’ perceptions of their credibility based on displayed behaviour in the classroom)

Most methodologically innovative study R2000 was awarded to Ernest Mazibe (The relationship between teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge and student learning in electrostatics)
