14 May 2018
On the 4th of May 2018, the UP Campus Tours team were invited to meet with the CEO of Enterprises UP, Mr Deon Herbst.
During the meeting with Enterprises, the UP Campus Tours team received personalized shirts. These shirts will serve as a “brand” by which the UP Campus Tours team can be recognised throughout the year.
These shirts will be worn during meetings and when conducting tours around the campus. The UP Campus Tours team wear these shirts with great pride as they look professional and also give a sense of unity as a representative of the University of Pretoria.
The UP Campus Tours initiative is run by the Heritage and Cultural Tourism students as part of their honours program and is guided by Professor Karen Harris and Ms Charlene Herselman. By students running this program like a business gives them the opportunity to gain valuable insights and an advantage for future career endeavours. The skills learnt include setting up structures for a business similar to that of campus tours, finance, marketing, administration, and facilitating tours around campus. Thus, students not only gain research skills but also practical work experience.
Through operating UP Campus Tours, the opportunity is created for the students to work directly with various visitors and partners of the University. Tours are conducted for foreign dignitaries, visiting academics, exchange students, school groups, university staff, and prospective students and their families. This makes the work of the UP Campus Tours team of vital importance, as they are responsible of creating a good first impression of the University as a whole.
Tours of the general campus, the museums, the botanical gardens, or the University’s own interactive science facility (the Sci-Enza) can be booked. For more information about these tours please send an email to [email protected] , or phone 012 420 5155.
