Heritage tour for Heritage Month!

19 October 2018 by Carmen Joubert

In celebration of Heritage Month the UP Campus Tours team conducted a tour for guests from the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SARHA) and the National Heritage Council on 13 September 2018. Both of these agencies fall under the Department of Arts and Culture.

The team customised the tour in order to focus on the rich heritage that can be found at the University of Pretoria. The tour included a visit to the Kya Rosa Building, which is usually closed to the public. The tour began at this building to symbolise the beginning of TUKS, as the Kya Rosa building served as the first campus of the University back in 1908.  The tour further included a tour of the Old Arts building. This building is considered a national monument and houses various art galleries. The Campus Tours team took the guests into the Mapungubwe gallery, also located inside the Old Arts Building, to show the more diverse heritage found at the University.

The tour was covered by the official campus newspaper, Perdeby. An article covering this tour was published in the Perdeby on 17 September 2018 and can be viewed on their website
