The
Department of Taxation’s Tax@Tuks student society hosted its third annual networking event on 2 May 2017. This event aims to provide both students and prospective employers with the ideal platform to engage one another regarding vacation work, articles and other graduate programmes offered by the respective firms.
This year
Tax@Tuks is proud to announce that both the student and firm turnout has been the most diverse since the creation of the networking event in 2015. Students were not only exposed to audit firms, such as EY, Deloitte and KPMG, but also to consulting firms, such as McKinsey. In addition, the BCom (Law) and LLB students were afforded the opportunity to engage with law firms too, namely Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr and ENSAfrica. Most importantly, those looking to further their careers as tax professionals were able to connect with the South African Institute of Tax Practitioners, who were also present at the event.
In the continued endeavour to reach out and make a difference in the community, Tax@Tuks undertook to help the Heartbeat Foundation sell Tekkie Tax stickers at the event. However, this was not the only outreach project that was run on the day – the participating firms each donated a generous hamper consisting of baby essentials that will be going towards the CarryOn Baby Project, which is being spearheaded by the Commercii (EMS Faculty House) outreach team.
