Training

The Centre runs bi-annual Senior Government Mediation Training Workshops that focus on high-level mediation in Africa and draw on the practitioner experience of the trainers. The workshops cover conflict analysis; designing and planning a mediation process; and mediation strategy and facilitation.

Women's Capacity Building Programme

A Women’s Capacity Building Programme on Conflict Resolution, Negotiation and Mediation for 60 senior South African women leaders to be hosted from Saturday, 6 August 2016 to Wednesday, 10 August 2016.

The main objective of the Capacity Building Programme is to contribute to the development and capacity of a next generation of mediators, particularly women in DIRCO, among South African government and non-government organisations. This training programme will only focus on women and will also coincide and conclude with the celebrations around the South Africa’s Women’s Day on 9 August 2016 and the celebrations around Women’s Month (August). The Training Programme will furthermore contribute to the institutionalisation of conflict resolution, negotiations and mediation skills and would contribute to a repository and team of knowledgeable leaders that would support the role of political principals during mediation missions. The Training Programme will also serve as a platform for networking and the sharing of best practice amongst senior diplomats.

CMA presents international mediation skills workshop

In November 2013 the Centre’s trainers presented a five-day workshop as part of the programme on mediation, negotiations and constitution-drafting organised by the Diplomatic Academy of the South African Department of International Relations and Co-operation.The course was attended by government officials from 18 African countries. At the end of the workshop the women participants proposed the establishment of an association of African women mediators. Planning is under way to form this association. 	EAC Mediation and Preventive Diplomacy Training Workshop 27-31 May 2013 – CMA ran a second training workshop on Mediation and Preventive Diplomacy for the East African Community (EAC). Participants were senior officials of the member states and members of the EAC secretariat tasked with developing the EAC's mediation capacity as part of the new Conflict Prevention, Management and Resolution Mechanism (CPMRM). A first exploratory workshop took place in December 2012. The workshop programme can be viewed here.
	SADC Mediation Training Workshop In October 2012 the Centre ran a senior mediation training workshop in partnership with SADC. The aim was to enhance the expertise of SADC’s new mediation structures. The workshop participants included members of the SADC Panel of Elders, the Mediation Reference Group and the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Co-operation. Senior Government Mediation Training Workshop

The Centre hosted a Senior Government Mediation Training Workshop from 29 November to 1 December 2011.
