House Parents

Word from House Parents:

Prof Linda van Ryneveld: Head of Residence

and Oom Paul van Ryneveld: House father

Since its inception in 1969, Mopanie has always been recognised as the preferred home away from home for bright young men who wanted to excel academically, whilst maintaining a well-balanced lifestyle.  Mopanie is a great home for anyone who wishes to be part of a success story where those who work hard, get to play hard as well.  Whether you are a sports genius, a culture fanatic or a serious academic, Mopanie is the place you would want to call “home”.

We take great pride in Mopanie’s inclusive traditions and values, and we strive to keep up to the high standards we set for the House and everyone who lives here.  As officers and gentleman, we appreciate the intrinsic value of all people and we are determined to live in harmony with one another.

Through UNITY still higher!

Geolé!

“ I am proud to be an old Mopaan because the values I have learnt here were formed by many generations of great men.  This glorious residence catapulted me from being a boy into manhood.” [Ivan, 2012 – 2014]

“ I remember the chills down my spine when 300 guys sang the Geolé in front of a ladies res.” [Jaco, 1980’s]

“ Mopanie is the place where I made my BFF’s (best friends forever).  No wonder there are so many second generation Peppies in Mops!”  [Stefan, 1884 – 1987]

“Can’t wait to visit our legendary home again!” [Kamohelo, 1999 – 2001]

“My fondest memories are the pumping of adrenaline as we run down the stairs as Peppies to gather in the hall on demand of the Ienk Captain, warming up in the quad before a first team rugby game on a Friday night, running onto the field and feeling the tension from hundreds of Mopanie faithfulls standing shoulder by shoulder next to the field, and the crunch of that first tackle to the roar of ‘Geolé Mopanie!’ “ [Hano, 1980’s]

“Mopanie is it all!”  Wafula, [1999 – 2001]
