The Department of Auditing was established in 2001 with the objectives of developing the disciplines of auditing and internal auditing, to make contributions to the different professional programmes related to external and internal auditing and to focus on research and postgraduate studies. We are also involved in various community and continuing education projects; serve approximately 2 000 students and is involved in various research projects.
The BCom (Financial Sciences) programme and the BComHons (Internal Auditing) programme at UP have been jointly registered as an approved internal audit programme (Internal Auditing Educational Partner or IAEP) at the IIA (Institute of Internal Auditors) Global in the USA.
The IAEP continuum was developed during 2006. The University has been accredited by the IIA Inc. with its highest level of educational expertise, namely as a Centre for Internal Auditing Excellence. The Department of Auditing is one of only seven Centres for Internal Auditing Excellence in the world; an achievement which the Department and all its stakeholders are rightly proud of.
Teaching activities are mostly aimed at developing students for the various professional qualifications related to the disciplines of external and internal auditing and include the international Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), the Chartered Accountant (CA[SA]) and Registered Auditor (RA) qualifications. Quality and the maintenance of high academic standards form the basis of all our programmes, courses and research activities.
