Projects

Research project 1: Development of novel anti-infective agents derived from tick defence proteins/ peptides

Research objectives:

·         Investigation of the antimicrobial, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibiofilm activity of synthetic peptides/derivatives

·         Mechanism of action studies of each identified bioactivity

·         Evaluation of antimicrobial activity under physiological conditions

·         Evaluation of selected peptides/derivatives for their wound healing activity

Research project 2: Identification and characterisation of bioactive peptides in foods with potential for prevention/treatment of chronic diseases

Research objectives:

·         Screening of food products for bioactivity (ACE-inhibitory, antimicrobial and anti-oxidant activity)

·         Identification and characterisation of peptide/s

·         Confirmation of bioactivity using synthetic peptides

·         In vitro and in vivo validation of bioactivity
