Welcome to the Centre for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology

What is Bioinformatics?

Bioinformatics is the integration of mathematical, computer, statistical and biological sciences to analyse biological data.

What is Bioinformatics used for?

Bioinformatics is used for a variety of tasks, some of the most common are:

  • Analysing and comparing protein and nucleic acid sequences
  • Annotating genomes
  • Studying gene expression patterns
  • Investigating molecular structures
  • Simulating metabolic pathways
