Centre for Intellectual Property Law

Welcome to the Centre for Intelletual Property Law.

The Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria has joined forces with one of the leading intellectual property law firms in the country to establish cutting-edge capacity in the field of intellectual property law. The establishment of the Adams & Adams Chair in Intellectual Property Law and the Centre for Intellectual Property Law is made possible through the generous sponsorship of Adams & Adams.  The Centre resorts under the Department of Private Law.

This project brings together two leaders on the African continent and internationally recognised institutions.  It creates a vehicle to enhance the latent synergism between the academic resources and expertise of the Faculty of Law and the practical legal experience and expertise of Adams & Adams.

The Centre of Intellectual Property Law serves as a platform for the promotion and development of intellectual property law in South Africa and Africa by advancing and disseminating knowledge in respect of intellectual property.  To this end, the Centre is engaged in research, presentation of the LLM in Intellectual Property Law, supervision of research students at both LLM and LLD level and development and presentation of short courses on intellectual property law.
