Marco van Dijk is a lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Pretoria and a Principal Researcher for WRC research projects. He graduated from the University of Pretoria with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1996, completed his BEng (Hons) degree in 1998 and joined the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Pretoria in 2000. He obtained a MEng degree in Water Resource Engineering in 2003 and he is currently enrolled for a PhD.

He received the SAICE Water Engineering Award in 2002, for his significant contribution in software development and technology transfer in the water engineering field (a joint award with Prof SJ van Vuuren). He has compiled numerous technical reports and journal publications in the field of pipelines, hydropower generation and water distributions systems. He has also presented numerous courses and workshops on network analyses, pipeline engineering and hydropower generation.

-  SHC792 – Flood Hydrology

- Continuous Professional Development courses to industry (Pipeline optimization and design, Network       design, Free Surface Flow modelling, Flood hydrology and stormwater modelling)

 

Current research interests

-  Hydropower development for rural electrification in South Africa.

-  Energy generation using low-head hydropower technologies.

- Conduit hydropower implementation

- Optimizing of water supply and distribution systems.
