Research

The Department has facilities and carries out research in the following disciplines of Civil Engineering:

- Geotechnical Engineering
- Water Resources Engineering
- Structural Engineering
- Transportation Engineering
- Railway Engineering
- Civil Engineering Materials

Although the bulk of the research activities is based at the MEng and PhD level, supervised by our academic staff, our undergraduate students are introduced to research in their final year when they have to complete their own research project to comply with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa) requirements.  The following list of final year research topics for 2017 illustrates the broad field of research areas in which the Department is active.
