Nadia Ghillino, Masters student in Interior Architecture (class of 2018) exhibited her dissertation project, The Secret Life of Streets, at the Department of Human Settlements’ Neighbourhood 4.0 Off-the-Wall Technology Showcase at the CSIR on 8-9 February.
Her project investigates the issue of homelessness, by proposing an adaptable and flexible temporary cubicle design to address the lack of basic amenities in public urban areas. The design aims to re-introduce human dignity in environments where basic human needs are not met, and presented several technical explorations in materials, modularity and manufacturing as well as integrated services and systems. Her project was one of five invited to a final project pitch session and received a special commendation from the judges.
The Department of Architecture is very proud of Ms Ghillino’s achievement and wishes her the best with her career.
