The programme for the information day was presented by the Veterinary Public Health Section of the Department of Paraclinical Sciences and sponsored by the K Birch Trust while the North West Province Department of Education acted as one of the organisers of the event.
Topics such as organisms causing disease and the type of diseases they cause, the control of external parasites and the diseases caused by internal parasites were covered in the programme by the speakers, Prof Cheryl McCrindle and Dr Nenene Qekwana of the Veterinary Public Health Section. A practical session on vaccination and control of diseases was included in the programme while there was also time to visit the Anatomy and Physiology Department to study a skeleton and the anatomy of a ruminant.
At the same time, utilizing opportunities such as these are important to the Faculty to provide teachers with accurate information with regard to its courses. Information on veterinary science and marketing material were therefore handed to the teachers which they can use to motivate their students to study veterinary science. Observably, the information day was a great success and plans are already underway for similar days in the near future.Dr Louise Biggs of the Department of Production Animal Studies escorted the teachers on a tour of the Faculty's farm animal facilities
