In this block we provide an overview of the subject with introductory lectures covering all aspects of haematology.

The Department of Haematology contributes to this multi- disciplinary block by conducting teaching seminars designed around actual case studies. Students are shown peripheral blood and bone marrow specimens at a multi-headed microscope and are taught the morphological principles of haematological diagnosis.

In this block students are taught the role of the pathology laboratory in arriving at a medical diagnosis.
Topics covered include:
In addition to these formal lecture blocks, students in the 5th and 6th years spend two days in the Department of Haematology. Here they are taught how to make optimal use of the haematology laboratory. They also attend the haematology clinic and participate in the work-up and management of patients with haematological disease
