At House Boekenhout we celebrate our unity as a house through the traditions we practice. We have a house committee member responsible for maintaining these traditions. He is supported by a transformations committee - consisting of house members - to help him ensure these traditions stay applicable to us as a house.
First year clothing
As a first year you recieve first year clothing, consisting of a shirt and a cap, worn with a chino or jean, which you wear through out orientation week. Practically these clothes identify you as a House Boekenhout member. Beyond this, the clothes instill a sense of pride and belonging.
First year cap
With your first year cloting you are given a distinctive first year cap. After orientation week we encourage first years to keep on wearing the cap through out the year. This is firstly because it still encourages the feeling of belonging and pride for House Boekenhout. Being new to university and finding your place in this new world it is reassuring to know you do belong somewhere. This gives you confidence to grow into the person you want to become. Besides this there is nothing for calming that spotting a fimiliar blue cap in the thousands of unfamiliar faces on campus.
House clothing
Beyond first year clothing, you have a range of house clothing that you have a option to buy. These clothing is mostly bough by second years and seniors. More information concerning the choices of clothing will be conveyed through your time at Boekenhout. There is also diffrent caps you can buy to add to your first year cap.
House clothing Thursdays
Throughout the week each residence has a day where the first years where their first year clothing. This is a way to, once a week, showcase your house to those on campus. This tradition has gained so much support, that most Thursdays, you will see a lot of seniors also wearing some sort of Boekenhout clothing, still very proud of the house they represent.
Corridors
In a physical sense Boekenhout is divided into corridors. Throughout the years the senior corridors developed their own characteristics and it became a tradition to represent within the house a corridor. This also gave origin to corridor week, where the different corridors compete against each other in a wide range of activities. The different corridors also started making their own corridor shirts. Each corridor designs their own shirt and make sure that it is affoardable or gets a sponsor so everybody can participate in this tradition.
