About Us

The staff of the Department of Humanities Education are leaders in producing excellent teacher graduates and extracting the potential of young students in the BEd programme to mediate postgraduate interest. They are forward thinking, forward moving academics who act as role models to future teachers modelling transparency, motivation, job satisfaction and expertise.

At undergraduate level the Department provides training to BEd students with different phase specialisations. Its module offerings include Education, Professional Studies, Literacies in Education, Literacy Practices, Teaching Practice and Service Learning as well as methodologies for Art, Afrikaans, Education, English, Geography, History, Music and Human Movement Studies.

At postgraduate level the Department hosts two professional qualifications, the Postgraduate Certificate in Education and the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education, an honours degree in Curriculum and Instructional Design and Development as well as Masters and Doctoral degrees in Curriculum and Instructional Design and Development and Humanities Education.

This diverse Department with a wide range of innovative modules offers prospective students the opportunity to make interesting choices. Important aims of the Department are to stimulate the postgraduate component of the Faculty, obtain a high frequency of research outputs and excellence in both pre and in- service teacher education and professionalism.
