Honours BCom Informatics / Honours BIT(InformationSystems)

NQF level = 8
Minimum of 120 credits, 7 modules
Faculty: BCom (Inf) Hons: EMS, BIT (IS) Hons: EBIT

Pre-requisite

  • 60% average for Informatics 3rd year or 60% average for equivalent third year IT courses as deemed applicable by the Department of Informatics. IT industry experience may be considered.
  • For BCom (Inf) Hons only: Student must enrol for and pass the first year, first semester modules in Accounting (FRK111), Business Management (OBS110), Economics (EKN111) and Statistics (STK 110), if these were not part of the Bachelor’s degree.

It is a requirement of the Faculty EMS that students  who register in this Faculty should have a basic academic background in these subjects. It is not allowed to do these four subjects concurrently with the BCom Hons (Inf) degree.

  • 60% average for the third year of any relevant B degree as deemed applicable by the Department of Informatics. IT industry experience may be considered.

180 credits, full dissertation (no course work)

Pre-requisite:

  • BCom Informatics Hons with an average of 65% and the following modules: FRK, EKN, OBS and STK 1st year, 1st semester.
  • Final mark of 60% for Advanced topics in IS Research seminar.
  • International students SAQA certificate needed. (www.saqa.org.za)

MIT Information Systems (MIT(IS)) (Research)

180 credits, full dissertation (no course work)

Pre-requisite:

  • Four year degree in IT/IS (e.g. BCom Informatics honours) with 65% average for the fourth year in IT/IS.
  • Final mark of 60% for Advanced topics in IS Research seminar.

MIT  ICT Management (Course work)

180 credits, 12 modules + mini-dissertation

Pre-requisite:

Relevant three or four year degree with an average of 65%, a pass mark in Matric Mathematics, and appropriate industry experience at the middle management level.

360 credits, thesis

Faculty:  EBIT

Prerequisite:

  • PhD(IS) and PhD(IT): M.IT (IS) or relevant Masters degree with average of 65%
  • Research component of the Masters degree to contribute to at least 50% of the credits of the degree.
  • At least 70% for Advanced topics in IS Research (1st semester) and Writing a PhD proposal in IS (2nd semester) as preparatory work.
