As part of its community development project, Prof Walter Focke and his team are considering physical methods of malaria vector control. The WHO is promoting the use of indoor residual spray (IRS) and 
insecticide-treated (ITNs) in order “toll back malaria. Long-life netting is preferred.
The IAM received funding support from Sasol ChemCity for the development of a polypropylene-based long-lasting insecticidal net and from Bill and Gate Foundation (BMGF) for an insecticidal paint approach for IRS.
