Laboratory for Atmospheric Studies (LAS)

The University of Pretoria is ideally situated to host a focussed research entity for conducting research in atmospheric circulation, atmospheric processes and air quality. With its long history of being the only tertiary institute in southern Africa to present under and postgraduate degree programmes in Meteorology, the university is also well-positioned to offer world-class education in these fields. The university prides itself on hosting a national research facility for sustainable air quality. The Laboratory for Atmospheric Studies (LAS) received initial seed funding from Eskom and Sasol. The LAS at the University of Pretoria aims to not only become a national centre of excellence with an international reputation, but also to be a leading facility in conducting integrated problem based research in finding solutions to South Africa’s atmospheric related challenges.
