Mechanical engineering students must gain six (6) weeks of industrial experience at the end of their 2nd and 3rd years of study. The aim is to develop an insight in the practical application of engineering science in industry and the related human relationships and safety aspects. The Engineering Council of South Africa requires this type of experience in the training of engineering students.

Special Concession Regarding MPY 315 and MPY 415
(University admin,s answer to " Does students have to register or deregister again for MPY if they have not submitted their reports? And do they have to pay again if they re-register the module?" )
We allow students to register for MPY 315/415 once, the reasons for this is if students are registered for MPY more than once our credit total for the degree (when the degree is completed) will exceed the full degree credits. We have in the the past allow student to be registered for MPY 315/415 in one year and only handing in the report early the following year, we as admin read in the students mark as if he/she completed this module in the year he/she was registered for the said module This, however, is not a set regulation but rather a special concession.
