BChD II Year:
Introductory lectures in Basic Restorative Dentistry.
BChD III Year:
Training commences in the third year of study in the Skills Laboratory where the clinical setting is recreated. This is their first practical exposure to Odontology.
Students gain experience by learning and practising restorative procedures on extracted human teeth mounted in a metal jaw on a phantom head.
During this year the focus is on:
BChD IV Year:
Students get their first clinical exposure.
Students get their first practical experience in Endodontics.
They dedicate their efforts to the comprehensive care of the patient by means of basic restorative dentistry.
During this year, they improve their manual dexterity as well as their interpersonal skills. They are taught to always maintain a professional and caring relationship with their patient.
BChD V Year:
The fifth year sees them combining their growing clinical knowledge in all fields of restorative work.
Root canal treatments, difficult restorations and the treatment of paediatric patients get the highest priority.
All of the students also get the opportunity to render their services to the community through projects in Hammanskraal and on the Phelophepa Health Train.
By the end of this year, they are able to treat patients confidently in all the disciplines of Odontology.

PG Dip Dent (Odont):
Postgraduate diplomas are currently offered in three different disciplines:
This course is offered on a part-time or full-time basis.
Content: entails research as well as a masters dissertation.
The minimum duration is two years.
Prerequisites for selection: Students must already have completed their BChD-degree as well as a
postgraduate diploma in Dentistry (PG Dip Dent (Odont)).
PhD:
This course is offered on a part-time basis.
Content: entails research as well as a doctoral thesis.
The duration is between two to four years.
Prerequisites for selection: An appropriate masters degree.
