On May 17th we had our second instalment of our Academic Basics transformation workshops. The workshop was hosted by our Transformation EC (Lusyomo Simatele) and was an introduction to the concepts of non-binary constructs in the world on gender and sexuality.

First those who attended the workshop were divided into groups to complete an activity in which they matched the name of a construct to a definition. A safe space was made and many people learned new terms that they had never even heard of before.

We then had a guest speaker, Lulama Shongwe, talk to us differentiating between terms such as gender, sex and sexuality and highlighting the importance of understanding this terms and respecting people's gender and sexual identities. We are incredibly grateful that she came to speak to us and share so much knowledge with us!

Overall it was a very productive session. It was empowering to learn so many things about the complex world around us a appreciate the diverse people we have in our society.
