The philosophy of the academy is that leadership is service and service is leadership. Our aim is to develop servant hearted leaders with a keen appreciation of their context and community and to lead through empowering others. This is achieved through participation in community engagement projects.
The primary project objectives for community engagement include:
Scholars chat before a presentation and Pretoria Technical High School
Our community service project runs in conjunction with local under privileged schools in Pretoria. Grade 10 and 11 schoolgirls from Tshwane Secondary School and Pretoria Technical High School are brought to UP on a regular basis, where students of the academy have the opportunity to teach the skills they have acquired, as well as provide information regarding tertiary education and funding, basic health, first aid and hygiene information and form mentorship bonds.

Formal, content, which is well researched and relevant to the broader South African context, is presented by the academy students to the scholars.The discussions and debates, which spring from the content, help the younger girls learn to structure and present new ideas, think laterally, engage with relevant topical issues and develop self-confidence.

At the end of the year a graduation event is held to celebrate the growth of the schoolgirls in the last year.

Starting with a wonderful Women’s Week celebration the TuksRes Women in Leadership Academy has developed a strong relationship with the Louis Botha Children’s Home.
In conjunction with PoWa, PulseUP and JuniorTukkie, TRWLA ran an outreach day, which provided fun, interactive, educational sessions for the young girls in this institution. The girls were able to learn about health, bullying, gender based violence, and tertiary education
