Clinical Services of the Veterinary Anaesthesiology Section

The Section of Anaesthesiology practises mainly within the purpose-built large and small animal theatre complex in the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital. All types of species admitted for surgical procedures are anaesthetised by members of the section.

The Anaesthesiologists occasionally assist or perform anaesthesia in patients requiring anaesthesia outside of the purpose-built theatre complex. These patients typically include those requiring general anaesthesia for dental or advanced diagnostic imaging.

Members of the Veterinary Anaesthesia section are also regularly invited to perform general anaesthesia outside of the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital, mainly on wildlife. Veterinarians concerned about their patient (any species) and in need of further knowledge or assistance are welcome to contact any of the section members for advice and/or assistance.
