Student Training

We invite students that want to pursue the following degrees to contact us for available projects:

• BSc(Hons)(Medical Virology); MSc (Medical Virology); PhD (Medical Virology)
• MMED in Virology or related clinical field- projects in neurological arboviruses or emerging respiratory viruses
• Post Doc (Molecular Virology/Epidemiology/Immunology/Bioinformatics)
• NRF interns

Bursaries: Applications to PRF; NRF; MRC  &  Robert Koch institute, Berlin Germany (ANDEMIA) project through registration on available projects.

Option to register with HPCSA as student medical Scientist:

The department have a few positions for intern training for students with at least a  BSc(Hons). Intern positions are completed while doing a MSc or PhD degree.

Specific projects for 2019:

• Development of the Taqman Array Card for Zoonosis: defining zoonotic pathogens in febrile disease in humans
• Arboviruses associated with mosquitoes and ticks in South Africa: Epidemiology of known arboviruses and virus discovery
• Molecular epidemiology, pathogenesis and control of arboviruses associated with neurological disease
• Development of molecular and serological tools for identification of arboviruses in humans and animals
• Defining the causes of Febrile disease of unknown origin in humans in SA, DRC, Cote d'Ivoir, BF (ANDEMIA)
