EXTERNAL CULTURE

  Ienkmelodienk:

Skerwe this is your night to shine. Lots of time and effort goes into the preparation for this big night. it is a 9 minute show packed with high energy, synchronized dancing, upbeat singing and a live band performed by none other than you. it is performed in front of a panel of skilled judges and a couple hundred spectators. So put your comfortable shoes on, clear your throats and get ready to show them what Katjiepiering is made of.

Serrie:

This event is similar to ienkmeodienk however it includes the whole residence. On the night of serrie we perform at each males residence to show our amazing routine, however it becomes more complex with tricks and lifts and eye-catching outfits. This year promises to be fun and interesting.

Serenade:

Serenade is a wonderful opportunity for the songbirds of our residence to shine. In essence Serenade is an Acapella singing competition, held between the all Tuks residences. The winners then go on to national Serenade finals to compete against the top serenade residences of various other universities nationwide. Songs are specially chosen and even professionally composed for our voice group of that particular year. Serenade has a special place in our Katjie household and for us it is more than just about the competition (although that doesn’t stop us from being competitive, as we are improving every year!) but about the healing and unity of music. Healing in that it gives girls who never thought they could sing the confidence not only to sing, but to get up on that stage and really shine and perform. Serenade forms a special bond between our girls in res, forming friendships that outlast serenade by many years, brought about by the many laughs and special memories shared between us. Yes, serenade is indeed about showing the world what the Katte are made of, but more than that it’s about the camaraderie of working together towards the common goal that unites us and thus we truly embrace our diverse sisterhood and Katte love, while jiving to our own special and unique rhythm and melody!
