Welcome to the official website of the Department of Ancient Languages and Cultures at the University of Pretoria! 

The Department of Ancient Languages and Cultures is housed within the Faculty of Humanities, on the Main Campus of the University of Pretoria, in Hatfield. 

The Department of Ancient Languages and Cultures is comprised of the subsections of Greek, Latin and Semitic Languages.

The following subjects are offered to prospective students on undergraduate and postgraduate level:

  • Ancient Culture Studies,
  • Greek,
  • Latin,
  • Medical Terminology,
  • Semitic Languages (on undergraduate level only Hebrew).
