CNE Microscopy Hub

The microscopy hub was established in 2016 within the Centre for Neuroendocrinology with the NRF-sponsored purchase of a Zeiss Laser Scanning Microscope LSM800. The LSM800 is equipped with atmospheric control (temp and CO2) and there is a POCmini 2 incubation chamber available for real-time imaging. With this equipment, we can track proteins in life cells, and perform Foster resonance energy transfer (FRET) and Fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP) experiments. While the microscope will mainly be used by the Centre other groups and researchers within the faculty and within the university are welcome to make use of it. Training and supervision is available and advice and help is given with regards to the preliminary steps for successful imaging experiments. Dr. van den Bout is responsible for the upkeep, development and training and can be contacted on [email protected]
