The Centre for Neuroendocrinology: Brain/Body Dialogues, a Research Centre within the Faculty of Health Sciences, was established in 2015. The Centre is directed by Professor Robert Millar and its establishment was supported by Principal Investigators, Dr Claire Newton (Deputy Director) and Dr Ross Anderson who were joined by Dr Iman van den Bout in 2017.
In a short period, the Centre already has recruited a large group of staff and students. The Centre’s research addresses the way in which the external environment and internal environment (body) are detected by the brain and integrated in the hypothalamic area to produce hormones which regulate all aspects of body health, including stress, metabolism, appetite, growth and reproduction. Disturbance of this homeostasis results in debilitating diseases such as obesity and diabetes, a failure to grow, infertility and cancers of the prostate, breast and female reproductive tract.
