Welcome to the University of Pretoria's Department of Dental Management Sciences

The Department of Dental Management Sciences is one of eight academic departments in the School of Dentistry. The Department plays a significant role in the School of Dentistry’s vision, namely to be “The Institution of Preference in Oral Health Care Training”.

The Department was established on 1 December 2006 as a result of the changing needs of the dental profession: it had become essential for the modern dentist and oral hygienist to, amongst other things, be able to think strategically; to have financial decision making abilities; to manage people effectively; to communicate professionally and with empathy with the patient and to have an ethical approach as an oral health care practitioner. The Department is the first of its kind at a dental teaching institution in South Africa.
