There is a North American-Indian saying: when one discovers you are riding a dead horse then the best is to dismount and to mount a new alive horse, not to buy a stronger whip! For us as a small Department consisting of four fulltime lecturers it is crucial to identify our possibly dead teaching and research horses and improper whips, and rather to search together for the mounting of new horses within an ongoing changing and challenging South African environment.
