“Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.”
I am delighted to welcome you to the 11th ICIC which will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa from 10 to 13 March 2019, on behalf of the hosts, namely the Information Regulator and the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria.
The 2019 ICIC provides a platform for diverse voices to address current issues that impact on access to information, including transparency and accountability, competing interests, the rights of vulnerable societies and the divisive role of technology.
The Conference offers an opportunity to local, regional and international Information Commissioners, Non-Governmental Organisations and promoters of access to information to share experiences and insights on how to strengthen public access to information through international cooperation.
We trust that you will enjoy your stay in South Africa, and that you will experience the kindness, the warm welcome and the hospitality that are embodied in “Ubuntu”.
We look forward to giving you a warm African welcome to Johannesburg, the City of Gold.
Pansy Tlakula
