Welcome to the School of Public Management and Administration at the University of Pretoria. The School offers a number of programmes geared towards improving capacity in the public sector and beyond. Our team of capable and dedicated staff are passionate about education and research which have an impact both locally and internationally. We are privileged to be located close to government in Pretoria and hence have a unique opportunity to respond to the needs of the public sector. We believe that being a professional in the public service should be a career of choice. This is why developing a highly educated and competent public sector employee is at the top of our list of priorities.
Our degrees are world class and cater for public sector employees in all spheres of government and in all organs of state as well as other leadership and academic positions. Our offerings include a variety of degrees starting with undergraduate studies, including a bachelor’s degree geared towards the working individual. This is quite unique and assists, particularly public sector officials, to study and work at the same time. We also offer an honours degree and several options for master’s and PhD degrees.
We are currently producing the largest number of postgraduate students in Public Management and Administration in South Africa. However, we are aware of the need for more specialised training for officials in all three spheres of government who may not possess the necessary qualifications. The SPMA is therefore partnering with national, provincial and local government structures to accommodate the further training needs of the public sector.
