The University of Pretoria’s
School of Public Management and Administration (SPMA) hosted the Kehl University of Applied Sciences in Germany’s annual study tour between 26 and 27 February 2019. A total of 14 undergraduate students were accompanied by Prof Dr Gert Fieguth, the Dean of Studies.
The purpose of the tour is to familiarise students with South African public administration. On 26 February, the students made presentation on a wide range of topics comparing Germany and South Africa at the SPMA’s Leadership Centre. The presentation generated very interesting discussions that also involved staff and students from the SPMA.
On 27 February, the delegation visited the Gauteng Department of Social Development’s migration sub unit. The head of the sub unit, Mr Robinson Sathekge, provided an overview of the migration challenges for the city of Johannesburg. The delegation also visited the Jesuit Refugee Service South Africa in Johannesburg.
The SPMA has been hosting a delegation from Kehl University annually since 1997. In return, the SPMA sends staff to Kehl University to deliver lectures and to take part in collaborative research, as well as the annual European Parliament simulations.
