2. The Department works jointly with the Joint Centre of Science, Mathematics and Technology Education. The name of the Department of Science, Mathematics and Technology Education (an undergraduate programme) parallels that of the Joint Centre for Science, Mathematics and Technology Education (a primarily postgraduate programme), pointing to the continuity of function and the flow of students and staff between the Department and the Centre. In other words, the parallel naming strengthens attempts to link preservice teaching in SMTE to postgraduate research in the same broad field.
