Our approach here is knowledge sourced from conscious lived experiences with the environment. Explored here is a concept of mapping landscape shifts by drawing on the knowledge that is practiced by recognised individuals who make use of living maps; environments charted from experiences which begin with human beings and include animals, plants, elements, the ancestors and a supreme being. Such maps could offer a perspective left out in colonial or apartheid maps (conventional maps), and provide alternative methods of engagement between people and the land they live on.
