Chances are you don’t understand the heading, and that’s simply because you don’t understand French. But that’s no problem, it can easily be translated. The heading says: “Hello, welcome to our website”.
In a country such as South Africa, with eleven official languages, not understanding something or someone is part of everyday life. South Africans are therefore aware of the benefits of translation and interpreting, simply by living a multilingual country. Even the most famous South African, Mr. Nelson Mandela, was aware of these benefits when he said: “If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart”.
The Postgraduate Programmes in Translation and Interpreting Studies provide our students with the skills they need to talk to people’s hearts. These skills are acquired through a sound academic understanding of the subject field, as well as ample practical experience.
We provide our students with a dynamic and interactive learning environment while focusing on preparing them for real-life translation and interpreting situations. Teaching in our brand new, state-of-the-art translation and interpreting hall, with the latest translation and terminology software as well as five double booths for interpreting, enables our students to step into the work place with confidence, not only in South Africa, but throughout the world.
