The Hatfield Campus Clinic is funded and supported by the University of Pretoria who provides accommodation and infra-structure, salaries and benefits to 8 of the staff members. It also provides a small operational budget. We also receive funding from the Fidelity Fund and other smaller funders e.g. law firms.
In 2018, 60% of the salaries of 10 of the sixteen candidate attorneys are paid by Safety and Security SETA (in terms of an internship agreement). Our Hammanskraal branch is fully funded (salaries and operational costs) by Legal Aid South Africa in terms of a long standing co-operation agreement, renewable every three years. Clients, where they can, contribute to payment of direct disbursements i.e. sheriff’s fees.
Our research and short courses section also raises substantial amounts of money by doing research, especially empirical research, for Government or its agencies and for the private sector and by presenting short courses, both on-line and residential for the major role players in the credit industry i.e. credit providers, debt counsellors and members of the legal profession.
The University of Pretoria Law Clinic also receives donations and sponsorships on an ad hoc basis from different institutions, and even from individuals. The following sponsors have loyally been assisting us with sponsorships over the last few years: Nestlè Pureau, Juta, Lexis Nexis and Mercuri International.
