History
A University Senate Decision converted the Environmental Economics Program of the Department of Agricultural Economics, Extension and Rural Development (LEVLO) in 2001 to the Centre for Environmental Economics and Policy in Africa (CEEPA) located within the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences at the University of Pretoria in South Africa.
Mission
The mission of CEEPA is to enhance the capacity of African researchers to conduct environmental economics and policy inquiry of relevance to African problems and increase the awareness of environmental and economic managers and policy makers of the role of environmental economics in sustainable development.
Objectives
CEEPA strives to achieve and provide quality degree and non-degree training in environmental economics and policy; excellence in research in the field of environmental economics and policy; increased awareness among practitioner managers, planners and policy makers in public and private sectors of the role of environmental economics and policy in optimal and sustainable exploitation and development of environmental resources; and increased collaboration and exchange of experiences for cross-fertilization, augmentation of capacity and reduced professional isolation of peer academics in participating regional universities and academic research institutions.
Funding
The University of Pretoria provides funding for the core degree training and research programs of CEEPA. CEEPA also receives external funding from many donors supporting various capacity building, research and networking activities (see details in respective sections of the website)
