CentRePoL-Ifas 2009-2010 project on the use and role of African languages in education in South Africa

CentRePoL-Ifas 2009-2010 project on the use and role of African languages in education in South Africa
This project, initiated with Michel Lafon's posting at CentRePoL in late 2008, drew heavily on CentRePoL past projects.

It included two one-day workshops (March 2009 and March 2010) held jointly with colleagues from the UP Faculty of Education as well as Umalusi for the second one, plus a half-day one in November 2009 at the occasion of the visit of colleagues from Norway en route to Lesotho.

Students participated in the research by doing class observations, notably Mrs Nthatisi Bulane, PhD student from Llacan-France, and Loretta Msomo, MA at UP.

Although emanating from an earlier workshop, a publication was issued in 2008 that fitted with the overall purpose of the project (Lafon M & V Webb,The Standardisation of African Languages - language political realities, Nouveaux Cahiers de l’Ifas n°11, 141p.)
