The Centre for Child Law in the Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria, hosted the 6th Annual Child Law Moot Court Competition on 18 and 19 September 2015.

The hypothetical facts dealt with the question of whether children can be charged with the manufacturing and distributing of child pornography if they take and send 'naked selfies' of themselves.

Seven universities participated in the Competition, namely the University of Johannesburg, Rhodes University, the University of the Western Cape, North West University (Potchefstroom Campus), the University of Pretoria, the University of Venda and the University of the Witwatersrand.

The preliminary and semi-final rounds were held at the Law Faculty of the University of Pretoria. A number of legal academics, practising attorneys and advocates sat as judges in these rounds. The University of Johannesburg and the University of the Witwatersrand advanced to the final round of the Competition which was held at the North Gauteng High Court.

The bench of the final round consisted of Judge Jody Kollapen, Melanie Murcott (a Public Law lecturer at the University of Pretoria and an attorney) and Chris McConnachie (serving pupilage at the Johannesburg Bar).

After a tough final round, the proud team of the University of Johannesburg walked away with the laurels.
