Three members of the Department of Mercantile Law in the Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria recently presented papers at the INSOL International Academics' Colloquium held in Singapore at the beginning of April 2019.  This Colloquium creates an international platform for leading professors, emerging academics and practitioners to discuss, debate and engage on the latest research findings regarding international insolvency law.

Dr Tronel Joubert and Prof Monray Marsellus Botha, who also served as a judge on the Ian Fletcher International Insolvency Moot Court Competition, delivered a paper titled "Do South African employees take the lead in active employee participation in corporate rescue proceedings?: A comparative study with Australian and English Law".

Prof Reghard Brits delivered a paper titled "The impact of constitutional property law on insolvency law in South Africa".  Prof Melanie Roestoff also attended the conference.

On return to South Africa Prof Botha expressed the hope that UP law students, given their national and international standing in moot court competitions, soon would be able to secure the necessary funding to participate in this prestigious moot court competition which was hosted in collaboration with INSOL International and the International Insolvency Institute, Queensland University of Technology and Singapore Management University.  The finals of the moot were held from from 29 to 31 March 2019.
